Atkins Library extends borrowing privileges to our friends (community members who join the Friends of Atkins Library), alumni, emeritus faculty and administrators, and members of various educational cooperatives. | COMMUNITY/FRIENDS OF ATKINS LIBRARY |
Community members at least 18 years of age obtain borrowing privileges by giving a gift of $49 or more to Atkins Library at the UNC Charlotte Make a Gift page. Eligibility verified by photo ID at the Circulation Desk to receive the Friends of Atkins Library card. Expires at the end of 1 year. |
| GREATER CHARLOTTE CONSORTIUM | Faculty and staff from member schools receive borrowing privileges while employed at a school participating in the consortium. Present a current faculty or staff ID from home institution at the Circulation Desk to receive Friends of Atkins Library card and upon each checkout. |
| UNC SYSTEM COOPERATIVE | Faculty, staff and students from all schools in the UNC system receive borrowing privileges while employed at or attending a UNC system school. Present a current ID from home institution at the Circulation Desk. Circulation staff will verify current enrollment in the university system. Expires at the end of the current semester |
| FACULTY/STAFF FAMILY | Spouses and children at least 16 years old of UNC Charlotte faculty and staff accompany the employee to the Circulation Desk on the first visit and present photo ID to receive the Friends of Atkins Library card. Expires at the end of 1 year. |
| PROXY | Faculty appointed Proxy Borrowers present a current ID at the Circulation Desk. Application available online or upon request at the Circulation Desk Expires on date designated by faculty member in the application. |
| SPECIAL PERMISSION | Visiting scholars or other individuals sponsored by a unit of Academic Affairs present a current photo ID at the Circulation Desk. Expires at the end of the contract. |

| A maximum of 6 items may be checked out at one time. Borrowing privileges are for physical items only and do not include access to online licensed resources. |
| Loan period is 21 days. If an item is not overdue and has not been recalled, it may be renewed up to 2 times by calling the Circulation Desk at 704-687-0491. |
| Fines accrue for items not returned when due. Any unpaid fines result in suspension of library privileges. |
| Materials on Reserve may only be used in the Library. |
| All items are subject to recall by another user after the guaranteed loan period of 21 days. |
| Interlibrary Loan service is only available to UNC Charlotte faculty, staff, students, and to other libraries. |
