Course Reserves for Faculty/Staff

Course Reserves is a library service offered to instructors to ensure that material they want their students to read is available for them. You may choose a one hour, three hour, one day, three day or seven day loan period.

Faculty can request that items be added to any current course they are teaching. Faculty can request that Library staff pull items from the shelves, or bring materials to the Library to be put on reserve. Departmental and faculty-owned titles of textbooks and other titles needed for the class can be placed on reserve.

Please drop off your items at the Circulation Desk as early as possible before the start of the semester to avoid any delay.

Typically we can place on reserve any title and format that is available for check-out. If the item is checked out, we will rush recall it. If you bring Library-owned titles for Course Reserves directly to the desk, they will be processed significantly faster than if our staff is required to pull them from the stacks.

If you know that the Library does not own a title, you may request a purchase order by submitting a request with the relevant bibliographic Information.

Electronic Reserves has moved to Canvas!

After a request for electronic reserves is received, library staff will clear copyright permissions on the requested materials. Once the material is scanned, staff will upload the pdf files into the instructor's Canvas files.

In order to have course reserves assist you in the scanning and placing of files into your Canvas classrooms, instructors will need to assign a co-designer role to the library reserve staff.

To place a request for electronic reserves, please email reserves@uncc.edu

Copyright Concerns

We are happy to assist you in determining the Educational Fair Use status of items submitted for electronic reserves. Be sure to include a copy of the original copyright statement for all copyrighted items. We will get back to you if there are any copyright issues that have to be addressed. This adds time to the processing procedure so submit materials early to insure they will be ready when your students need them!
