Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service that lets students, faculty, and staff of UNC Charlotte borrow materials that are owned by libraries at other institutions. Document Delivery is a service that lets students, faculty and staff request an electronic copy of a physical journal article or chapter owned by J. Murrey Atkins Library at UNC Charlotte (see details below).

Through ILL, you can request books and other academic materials currently not available in our Library and pick them up once they arrive. ILL requests for physical items may take 2-3 weeks. These items can be picked up at the Circulation Desk once they become available, or Faculty and Staff may request to have items delivered to their office via campus mail (Campus mail delivery is not available for: A/V materials, microforms, fragile materials.)

The service also provides electronic copies of articles and reports that are not available directly from our Library. Items that are sent electronically are usually received within 1-3 days. Once you receive an email notifying you that your article is available, you can download the requested material from your Interlibrary Loan account. (Your ILL account is different from your My Library Account.)

To use the Interlibrary Loan service, use the online form on ILL’s Main Menu page. You must be logged in to your ILL account to make a request.

You can also make an Interlibrary Loan request in the online search catalog by selecting a title and clicking “Request Item Through Interlibrary Loan”. Citation information is automatically transferred to the request form if the request is made through the search catalog.

To check the status of your Interlibrary Loan request, click on the “Tracking” button (next to the green UNC Charlotte truck icon) located on the Interlibrary Loan Main Menu page.

Watch this video for more information about how to make a request through Interlibrary Loan.

Please note: Community Borrowers, Alumni, and Early College students are not eligible to use Interlibrary Loan.
