Publishing Policies & Procedures

J. Murrey Atkins Library Digital Publishing Services is dedicated to the publication and dissemination of open access (OA), peer-reviewed scholarly materials that include academic journals, eBooks, conference proceedings, online collections and exhibits.

Open access refers to scholarly publications that are freely available to anyone with internet access anywhere in the world. Rather than limiting the availability of scholarly research to those who hold a subscription, like most traditional publishing models, open access does not require a subscription or any form of payment to access content.

Authors of scholarly materials are welcome to contribute to any of Digital Publishing Services’ publications.

New title proposals must be initiated by a current full-time UNC Charlotte faculty member. To contribute to an existing title, contact the editor of the publication. Information about current titles and respective contact information can be found in Current and Forthcoming Titles. Each publication has its own requirements for submissions. Prospective authors should consult with the publication to determine specific requirements set by the editorial team.

For each title, new or existing, contributors must establish a clear organizational and managing structure with clearly defined roles including the publication manager, the editor and editorial board members, and contributing authors.

Contributors must determine their publication’s scope and focus, type, publishing frequency, peer-review process, and content policies.

To publish with Digital Publishing Services, go to Submit New Proposal and use the appropriate form to submit your proposal or email a member of our team to schedule a consultation.

Our services include access to a suite of publishing platforms to help with the management and publication of online journals, digital monographs, conference proceedings, or online collections and exhibits.

Digital Publishing Services will help manage your publication through each step of the publishing process, which include providing technical support, platform software training, content management, and one-on-one consultations.
