1971 American Road Race of Champions
The images in this collection document the American Road Race of Champions. This race took place in November at the Road Atlanta track in Braselton, Georgia. This was the second year that the race was held at the newly built track. This race featured the best amateur drivers from all over the country in a "winner-take-all" race to determine the National Champion in each class. Don Parish was declared Central Champion at the end of the year. The event held a wide variety of competition vehicles. However, the 914/6 GT model was put in class B and the Porsche+Audi organization withdrew all support for the 1971 SCCA season. The American Road Race of Champions has become one of the top three events hosted by the Sports Car Club of America, and is the end-of-year championship race held by the organization.
