Darrell Waltrip edged out Cale Yarborough by some seven seconds to win the race, with Neil Bonnett, Bobby Allison, Benny Parsons, Richard Childress, Ricky Rudd, Dick Brooks, Buddy Baker, and Buddy Arrington rounding out the top ten. Because of a crash on lap 240, Richard Petty finished in 24th place.
