1976 Charlotte Motor Speedway Events

1976 National 500
The 1976 National 500 was a NASCAR Winston Cup Series racing event that took place on October 10, 1976, at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina. By 1980, NASCAR had stopped tracking the year model of all the vehicles; most teams did not take stock cars to the track under their own power anymore. Donnie Allison won the 1976 National 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The other top-ten finishers of the race were Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Buddy Baker, Benny Parsons, David Pearson, Lennie Pond, Richard Petty, Dick Brooks, and Bobby Wawak. Janet Guthrie was the only female competitor in the race. The 1976 National 500 was the last race for Buck Baker, who retired in 34th place. He would go on to mentor Jeff Gordon, who would become a prominent driver of modern NASCAR.
