Harry Arnold was an 80-year-old man at the time of interview, which took place at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was born in Dover, North Carolina in 1932. He was educated at UNC Chapel Hill, George Washington University, and the United States Naval War College. He served in the military as a naval officer between 1954 and 1981, rising to the rank of Commanding Officer in the Navy Finance Center in Cleveland Ohio. Following retirement from the Navy he was employed at UNC Charlotte, first as the Director of Financial Services from 1981 to 1984, then as the Executive Assistant to Chancellors Fretwell and Woodward from 1984 to 1989, and finally as Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs under Chancellor Woodward from 1989 to 1994.
