Roland R. Hinrichs was around 72-years-old at the time of interview, which took place in his home in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1907. He was educated at West Virginia University and Purdue University and was employed by Celanese as an engineer and Sears, Roebuck, and Company as a salesman.

Roland R. Hinrichs recounts his childhood in West Virginia during the early twentieth century and societal changes that took place throughout his adult life. Topics include his difficulty in finding employment during the Great Depression, his later work as an engineer, and memories of World War I and World War II.
