Harold C. Smith was a 75-year-old man at the time of interview, which took place at Memory Lane Racing Museum. He was born in Davie County in 1932. He completed seventh grade, and was employed as a maintenance manager, stock car mechanic as well as the Manager of Maintenance for the Town of Bassett, Virginia.

Harold Smith recounts his experiences as a member of the motorsports community of Virginia. He discusses his work as a auto mechanic and drag racer for William Mason's organization during the 1960s and 1970s. Mr. Smith recounts building and operating a drag racing strip, Lakeview Drag Strip, on his property with friends, which opened in 1958. Other topics touched on in the interview include Mr. Smith's time as an Airman during the Korean War as well as his time as a bootlegger, both making and transporting moonshine.
